AI-powered email security leader IRONSCALES recently announced a deepfake protection solution for enterprise email security, as AI-powered phishing attacks continue to rise.

New solution follows recent research showing pervasive phishing risk

The motivation behind this new solution from IRONSCALES stems from a recent study the organization released, which found that traditional Secure Email Gateways (SEGs) fail to stop an average of 67.5 phishing attacks per 100 mailboxes each month. Additionally, another IRONSCALES study revealed that over 94 percent of IT professionals expressed concern about the security risks posed by deepfakes, with over 43 percent stating that deepfake defenses will rank as their organizations’ top security priority within the next 12-18 months.

“The cybersecurity landscape is currently in the midst of a major sea change,” said Eyal Benishti, CEO of IRONSCALES. “Deepfakes, agentic AI, and other emergent technologies are fundamentally reshaping the threat landscape, ushering in a whole new stage in the evolution of phishing. This next generation of threats, which I like to call Phishing 3.0, is defined by highly-targeted, highly-sophisticated phishing threats that use these technologies to supercharge either social engineering strategies and launch attacks of unprecedented speed and scale. As we enter this new era, organizations are in dire need of tools and technologies that can protect and empower their workforce against these advanced threats. Our deepfake protection capabilities aim to do just that– giving organizations a powerful, proactive means of reliably detecting and preventing deepfake-driven attacks before they cause harm.”

Deepfake technologies, including those that utilize static imagery, audio, and video, are used by threat actors to trick victims into disclosing sensitive information, transferring funds, and granting unauthorized access to systems.

The new solution by IRONSCALES uses AI algorithms to analyze video and audio anomalies, flagging potential deepfake content before it reaches a target.

“The ability to detect deepfake videos in real time is a game-changer,” said Itzik Menashe, CISO at IoT provider Telit. “Plus, the capabilities are integrated seamlessly with the IRONSCALES platform, making it incredibly easy to roll out and scale across our organization. As cybercriminals continue to refine their tactics, IRONSCALES gives us the confidence to identify fraudulent attempts before they cause damage. This is a critical step in ensuring that our employees and partners can trust the messages they receive.”

Preparation for deepfakes

According to IRONSCALES research, 72 percent of enterprises are increasingly concerned about deepfake risks in the future, up from 48 percent today. Organizations recognize that deepfake attacks are rapidly evolving, establishing them as a significant cybersecurity concern.

While a significant percentage of organizations are concerned about deepfake phishing attacks, only 60% feel equipped to combat deepfake threats.

There are a number of steps that an organization can take to adapt its cybersecurity strategies even before adopting the new IRONSCALES solution:

  • Follow good process: Always verify requests through known channels– use callbacks, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and strict validation protocols to prevent impersonation attacks.
  • Upgrade phishing simulation: Move beyond basic templates and simulate real-world attack scenarios, including deepfake voice and video phishing, to better train employees.
  • Expand security awareness training (SAT): Ensure teams are educated on deepfake threats and other emerging security risks. Train employees to recognize AI-generated fraud and social engineering tactics.
  • Invest in AI to fight AI: Utilize AI-powered detection tools to identify manipulated media and stop deepfake-driven cyber threats before they cause harm.
  • Empower employees and leverage technology: Create a security-first culture where employees feel equipped to challenge suspicious requests and protect the brand from digital deception.

To further increase its cybersecurity offerings, IRONSCALES recently announced an integration with CrowdStrike. Read more about how this integration will allow customers to enhance their defenses.
