Emerson
Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE:EMR) and a specialist in maximizing
availability, capacity and efficiency of critical infrastructure, today
introduced the Network Power Data Center Efficiency Assessment, an onsite
infrastructure assessment designed to help enterprise companies identify,
evaluate and resolve cooling and power vulnerabilities that could threaten data
center performance and efficiency.
Offered
in North America, the assessment uses industry benchmarks and best practices to
identify opportunities to increase availability, reduce costs and unlock
capacity, and provide prioritized and actionable recommendations. The
assessment is aimed at data centers undergoing strategic projects such as
virtualization, consolidation or blade implementations and for those that are
capacity constrained, have experienced unplanned downtime or are experiencing
IT equipment degradation due to excessive heat.

IT industry is in a constant state of change, and data center managers are
regularly challenged to respond, while still finding ways to focus on
availability, reliability and efficiency in their facility,” said Omar McKee,
director of marketing for Emerson Network Power’s Liebert Services business in
North America. “This assessment service provides actionable data center
improvement recommendations that deliver measurable results in efficiency and
availability.”
Designed
for data centers with at least 2,000 square feet, the data center efficiency
assessment uses best practices for the IT environment and tools such as
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling to help eliminate hotspots;
identify areas of over-cooling; and validate solutions to enhance a business’s
data center’s cooling efficiency, identify ways to upgrade electrical and cooling
equipment for greater efficiency, and measure Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE)
in the data center so businesses can establish an efficiency baseline and track
performance.
The
assessment is also designed to help businesses plan for IT expansion and optimization
while maintaining energy-efficient operations without compromising availability
and justify investments in data center improvements with an Emerson Network
Power return-on-investment analysis.
In
addition, the assessment features a full on-site evaluation of electrical and
mechanical systems, IT load analysis, temperature and airflow modeling,
recommendations for improvements, PUE data, and payback calculations. Results
are provided electronically or in a standard, bound report, and an Emerson Network
Power associate delivers an in-person review of the results at the customer’s
site.
