Ataccama recently announced the launch of Ataccama Lineage, a new module within its Ataccama ONE unified data trust platform. It promises to provide enterprise-wide visibility into data flows, giving organizations a clear view of their data’s journey from source to consumption.

New module automates data management tasks

Ataccama Lineage works to simplify how organizations manage and trust their data. The solution utilizes AI-powered capabilities that automatically map data flows and transformations, which saves enterprises time and reduces manual effort. The solution also tracks sensitive data, such as personally identifiable information (PII), with audit-ready documentation to ensure compliance. Lineage establishes strong AI and analytics foundations, thus enabling organizations to make informed decisions and achieve long-term success.

“Managing today’s data pipelines means dealing with increasing sources, diverse data types, and transformations that impact systems upstream and downstream,” said Ataccama VP of Data Quality Jessie Smith. “The rise of AI and generative AI has amplified complexity while expanding data estates, and stricter audits demand greater transparency. Understanding how information flows across systems is no longer optional, it’s essential. Ataccama Lineage is part of the Ataccama ONE data trust platform which brings together data quality, lineage, observability, and master data management into a unified solution for enterprise companies.”

The current landscape of data lineage

Data lineage refers to the process of tracking data movement and transformation from its original source through various systems and processes. It helps understand dependencies and conduct impact analysis.

Data lineage is meant to increase data trust, which can be achieved by combining lineage with metadata from other sources and aligning with data quality and data trust initiatives.

According to Ataccama, the future of data lineage is integration with broader data governance and quality ecosystems. They’ve identified key trends shaping the evolution, including:

  • A decline in standalone tools: Standalone data lineage tools will likely decline, except for niche players offering highly specialized capabilities.
  • AI-powered governance integration: Data lineage will become foundational within AI-driven governance and data quality platforms.
  • Compliance and risk assessment: Regulatory and audit requirements will drive lineage integration into compliance workflows.
  • Business user empowerment: Self-service access to lineage insights will become essential while enabling business users to verify data trustworthiness without requiring technical expertise.

“As one of the nation’s leading homebuilders, Lennar is continually evolving our data foundation with best-in-class, cost-effective solutions to drive efficiency and innovation,” said Isaac Gabay, the senior director of data management and operations at Lennar. “Ataccama ONE Lineage’s detailed, visual map of data flows enables us to monitor data quality, trace issues through our ecosystem, and take a proactive approach to prevent and remediate quality concerns while maintaining centralized control. Ataccama ONE Lineage will provide unparalleled visibility, enhancing transparency, data literacy, and trust in our data. This partnership strengthens our ability to scale with confidence, deliver accurate insights, and adapt to the evolving needs of the homebuilding industry.”

Benefits of Ataccama Lineage

According to the Ataccama Data Trust Report 2025, 41 percent of Chief Data officers struggle with fragmented and inconsistent data systems. The report found that despite significant investments in integrations, AI, and cloud applications, enterprise data remains siloed or poor in quality.

“We do observe, in some cases, that lack of data flow visibility can be a bottleneck in achieving clients’ objectives of establishing trust in data and AI initiatives,” said Diptesh Singh, the offering sales leader for data and AI management at Cognizant. “Improvement in data flow visibility with Ataccama can help our customers in overcoming issues of data freshness, scheme drifts, data quality, data observability, and AI explainability.”

The lack of clarity, Ataccama says, impedes collaboration and increases the risk of non-compliance with regulations like GDPR, erodes customer trust, drains resources, and slows decision-making. With Ataccama Lineage, organizations can address issues such as these with benefits that include:

  • Faster resolution of data quality issues: Ataccama Lineage ensures continuity and reliability by enabling organizations to quickly pinpoint root causes, assess downstream impacts, and resolve issues before they impact business operations. With advanced anomaly detection, organizations can identify issues like missing records, unexpected values, or duplicates caused by transformation errors.
  • Simplified compliance: Data classification and anomaly detection enhance organizations’ visibility into sensitive data and track its transformations.
  • Comprehensive visibility into data flows: Ataccama Lineage offers maps that provide a detailed, enterprisewide view of data flows, from origin to dashboards and reports. Further, enhanced filtering focuses efforts on critical datasets, allowing faster issue resolution and better decision-making.
  • Streamlined data modernization efforts: Lineage reduces risks by mapping redundant pipelines, dependencies, and critical datasets during cloud migrations.

“Data transparency is foundational to building a robust data-first culture,” said Singh. “Data transparency helps build trust in data, collaboration between various departments, and can accelerate better decision making. We believe Ataccama Lineage will help in delivering the necessary transparency and trust in data required to accelerate the data-first cultural transformation for our clients.”

The Ataccama Lineage solution can benefit organizations from various industries. Financial organizations can benefit from audit-ready documentation that ensures PII is properly traced to authorized locations, reducing regulatory risks, meeting data privacy requirements, and fostering customer trust with transparent processes.

Further, manufacturing organizations can benefit by analyzing the lineage of key metrics, such as production efficiency or supply chain performance, and identify dependencies across ETL jobs, on-premises systems, and cloud platforms.

Lastly, insurance companies can also benefit from Ataccama Lineage. Those transitioning to modern platforms can retire outdated systems and migrate only essential data, minimizing disruption while maintaining compliance with regulations like Solvency II.

“Cognizant’s data management offerings are designed to enable business outcomes for clients through data-driven tactics– for efficiency gains, effectiveness in marketing, sales, supply chain, and finance,” said Singh. “Governance, trust, and transparency are foundational pillars to achieving those outcomes. A solid data lineage foundation helps establish good governance, and trust is built through data provenance, quality, and transparency. We believe Ataccama Lineage helps accelerate our offerings across data and AI governance and observability, helping us achieve these goals for our clients.”
