Recently, Intel announced that it would be unveiling its new Intel Edge Systems, Edge AI Suites, and Open Edge Platform initiatives to help streamline and speed AI adoption at the edge across industries like retail, manufacturing, smart cities, and media and entertainment.

Bringing edge AI to the market faster for partners and customers

Intel explains that over 100,000 real-world edge implementations with partners, many of which leverage AI today, create unique challenges for edge AI. Edge AI deployments must seamlessly integrate into preexisting IT systems in space-constrained, low-power, and cost-sensitive environments.

Intel AI Edge Systems, with Edge AI Suites and the Open Edge Platform, organizations can address the challenges that edge AI presents by building on Intel’s pervasive technology foundation at the edge. They empower the ecosystem to bring edge AI to the market faster and more efficiently.

“Our customers want to expand the use of AI in their existing infrastructure and workflows at the edge, ensuring they meet their total cost of ownership and achieve power and performance goals,” said Dan Rodriguez, Intel corporate vice president and general manager of the Edge Computing Group. “With decades of experience at the edge, we’re taking our edge AI offerings and support one step further with Intel AI Edge Systems, Edge AI Suites, and Open Edge Platform to accelerate the delivery of AI-ready solutions across the ecosystem.”

With an open edge approach, Intel can consistently deliver better edge-to-edge performance and overall total cost of ownership in varied industries.

Intel expands collaboration with leading partners

These three new AI initiatives by Intel are designed to accelerate the deployment of advanced AI applications. They utilize an ecosystem of trusted partners to enable enterprises to address industry-specific challenges and drive innovation in edge AI deployments.

“With the proliferation of IoT and AI-driven applications, we’re witnessing more workloadas moving to the edge, driven by the need for lower latency, real-time analytics, and improved data privacy,” said Jeremy Foster, senior vice president and general manager. Cisco Compute. “Cisco is answering this demand with platforms– powered by Intel Xeon 6 SoC architecture– that enable customers to deploy, operate, and scale their edge environments smarter and faster through zero touch provisioning and automated lifecycle management, while maintaining Cisco’s hallmark reliability, security, and performance. Working closely with Intel’s Edge AI systems initiative, we’re optimizing our solutions to meet demands for IoT and AI-driven workloads.”

The features of the three new AI initiatives include:

  • Intel AI Edge Systems: Intel’s edge systems speed up AI deployment at the edge. Solutions builders, including original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs), gain access to standardized blueprints, benchmarks, and verification tools optimized for edge AI use cases. The resources made available through the initiative will allow customers and solution providers to easily configure systems to meet the performance needs of use cases like vision AI or GenAI. The solutions feature a range of power levels, sizes, and performance options to ensure optimal hardware and software integration.
  • Edge AI Suites: These are open, industry-specific AI software development kits (SDKs) for independent software vendors (ISVs), system integrators, and solutions builders. They simplify the creation of custom AI solutions for various industries with curated reference applications, sample code, and application development benchmarks. Intel offers four suites optimized for retail, manufacturing, smart cities, and media and entertainment.
  • Open Edge Platform: This modular, open-source platform simplifies the development, deployment, and management of edge and AI applications at scale. Solution builders and operating system vendors integrate software components efficiently and leverage performance optimizations from Intel’s latest software advancements with cloud-like simplicity. Partners can deploy containerized workloads on remote edge devices and manage deployments with tools like Intel vPro/Intel Active Management Technology, enabling collaboration and innovation across the software ecosystem without needing on-site visits.

“Intel’s AI systems approach can have a major impact on the edge computing landscape by providing the ecosystem with greater choice and easily deployable solutions,” said Avijit Sinha, senior vice president, Strategy and Global Business Development at Wind River Systems. “Wind River has a long history of collaborating with Intel to deliver cutting edge solutions and bringing the broader ecosystem together across industries. We look forward to continuing our work with Intel on future developments to advance the intelligent edge with our comprehensive software portfolio as the cost of deploying AI becomes more accessible for the broader market.”

These new AI initiatives are on the heels of Intel naming a new CEO to shepherd the IT giant forward. Read more about the hiring of Lip-Bu Tan as the next Intel CEO and the shifting leadership team at the company.
