Global technology distributor Ingram Micro has appointed longtime executive Sanjib Sahoo as the company’s new president of its global platform group. Sahoo will lead strategy and collaborate with key leadership across the globe to identify and execute opportunities to further develop the company’s Xvantage platform.

Sahoo will oversee ‘all aspects’ of platform strategy

Sahoo’s new role continues his focus on the company’s platform strategy while expanding his scope to include a deeper focus on operational metrics and growth tied directly to Xvantage. Sahoo joined Ingram Micro in 2021 to bring the company into a new age of technology innovation following its storied past as a distributor.

“Ingram Micro has built upon its decades of experience to become a disruptive leader and digital force in the global technology industry,” said Ingram Micro CEO Paul Bay in a statement. “I’m pleased to announce the appointment of Sanjib as President of our Global Platform Group. A proven business strategist and digital innovator, Sanjib’s expanded leadership and dedicated team will better support and accelerate our vision of becoming a platform company that will reinvent the B2B customer experience through Xvantage.”

According to the statement, Sahoo’s role includes “platform development, the innovation flywheel, global growth, services and support, and the business expansion plans for Ingram Micro’s platform operating model.”

Sahoo himself described the role as a global mandate to drive Ingram Micro’s progress to becoming a platform company. This will include, he noted, internal optimization across all functions to get the most value out of the platform the distributor has spent years developing.

Xvantage poised for more growth and opportunity following a strong 2024

The road ahead for Ingram Micro is lined with an increased focus on the potential of the Xvantage platform to fully transform the company’s approach to distribution.

“Together, with our customers and vendors, we are delivering more value and realizing Ingram Micro’s strategic shift from 45-year-old technology distribution leader to ground-breaking, global B2B platform innovator,” Bay said in the same statement.

According to Ingram Micro, the platform is now available in 16 countries and blends traditional buying capabilities with more advanced business intelligence recommendations. As Channel Insider reported in November during the company’s annual ONE conference, the platform aims to address the needs of channel partners as demand for their services is potentially higher than ever before.

This has excited many of Ingram Micro’s channel partners and promises to deliver a personalized experience that shifts how the wider ecosystem approaches technology solutions for end customers.

“We want to become the platform ecosystem that enables the entire channel, from partners to vendors, that drives value for everyone,” Sahoo said. “Our platform is designed to solve complex problems in the channel.”

“The introduction of Xvantage has changed how we work and how we think about the future of our company and the experience we want to create and innovate around for our team and our customers,” said Bill Blum the president of Alpine Business Systems and U.S. co-president of Ingram Micro’s Trust X Alliance.

“Sanjib’s new role is further validation of Ingram Micro’s positive shift to a platform-based company to eliminate friction in the channel while delivering more value for all constituents,” Hans Mize, the president of Data 41, told Channel Insider. “As AI is further infused into Xvantage, the proactive insights will help us compress the Time to Value equation and offer a richer client experience.”

Ingram Micro continues to build on AI and AWS, among other strategies

While this news marks the first for the company in 2025, its approach to AI technology and its extensive partnership with AWS dominated channel headlines last year. This was apparent at ONE and echoed strongly in announcements made throughout November and December.

“When you win, we win,” Bay said on opening night at ONE. “We may not know exactly what will happen in the next five years, but we know the trends we are seeing now will shape the future. It’s up to us to help you take advantage of these shifts, especially when it comes to AI and cloud technologies.”

Ingram Micro was also named the AWS Global Distributor Partner of the Year at the annual AWS re:Invent event in December.
