Global software company N-able recently announced that it would acquire Adlumin, Inc., a provider of an enterprise-grade security operations platform for organizations of all sizes.

Acquisition builds on existing partnership between companies

The two companies already have a relationship that has helped provide customers with extended detection and response (XDR) capabilities and managed detection and response (MDR) services. With this acquisition, N-able will be able to incorporate Adlumin’s innovative technology into its platform, which combines security, unified endpoint management, and data protection solutions.

“Our customers have been telling us for some time that cloud-native XDR and MDR solutions are mission-critical to their ability to fully secure their customers and users– which solidified our decision to partner with, and now, acquire Adlumin,” said John Pagliuca, President and CEO of N-able in a press release. “We’ve proven our customer demand with robust growth and we determined that we could scale our business faster if we owned it. I’m thrilled to formally welcome them as a part of N-able.”

Pagliuca says progressing from partners to a unified organization is the right next step, and they expect to achieve stronger technical integrations that drive better outcomes for their approximately 25,000 worldwide customers.

Enhancing N-able’s growth and security offerings

The acquisition will allow N-able to deliver deeper insights and remediation across the entire IT environment. N-able aims to scale its security portfolio and fast-growing annual recurring revenue (ARR) from the existing partnership, and set a new security standard for MSPs and internal IT teams.

“This acquisition completes the third leg of the stool– bringing IT management, data protection, and security together under one roof, empowering MSPs, MSSPs, and IT professionals to better safeguard the IT assets that power today’s digital world,” Pagliuca said during a conference call. “By combining Adlumen’s cutting edge XDR technology and security operations MDR capabilities with N-able’s robust security suite, data protection solutions, and IT management platform, we feel we are decisively elevating our ability to secure and manage customer IT environments.”

To enhance and further N-able’s Ecoverse vision, Adlumin will provide security solutions and services for organizations through its agnostic security operations platform that seamlessly integrates with existing infrastructure. An open Ecoverse will help close the coverage gaps between IT professionals’ multi-vendor, multi-product software stacks.

“Their security platform fits perfectly within our Ecoverse vision for unifying security and unified endpoint management into a single platform, allowing us to build upon the success we’ve already achieved together,” Pagliuca said.

Benefits for customers

According to Pagliuca, N-able has been discussing wanting to matter “where it’s messiest” for customers for years.

“This acquisition makes us matter more than ever,” Pagliuca said. “Our ability to drive critical outcomes for customers, managing their IT assets, backing up their IT environments, and securing their digital assets is profoundly elevated.”

Among the benefits that N-able says customers will be able to leverage through this partnership include:

  • A unified view of their security operations for IT services providers through access to the XDR software and MDR software services, with end-to-end detection, investigation, response, and resiliency.
  • Full IT environment coverage (including the network, endpoint, identity, SaaS apps, public cloud, and more).
  • An AI-powered engine with data models that delivers rapid alerts on suspicious activities to enable more accurate threat identification and minimizing false positives.
  • Built-in ransomware protection and data exfiltration prevention.
  • Threat intelligence that can deliver deep insights into key threats to organizations.
  • Network perimeter defense to detect perimeter exposures and reduce the attack surface.
  • Compliance support with workflows for common frameworks, including HIPAA, PCI, banking (FFIEC and NCUA), FBI CJIS, R-SAT, and others.

This partnership with Adlumin has allowed N-able to successfully drive meaningful ARR growth and demonstrate how much of a differentiator the XDR software and MDR services combination is in the marketplace. These unified technologies provide a more holistic cybersecurity solution that works with IT management services, addresses the increasing overlap between ITOps and SecOps, and makes advanced protection accessible to all—delivering a deeper level of security intelligence.

“Joining forces with N-able marks an exciting new chapter in our mission to deliver enterprise-grade security to businesses of all sizes,” said Robert Johnston, CEO of Adlumin. “Over the past year, our collaboration has demonstrated the tremendous value we can create together for MSPs and their customers. By combining our security operations expertise with N-able’s comprehensive endpoint management platform, we believe we’re uniquely positioned to help IT professionals stay ahead of evolving threats while scaling their security practices.”

The acquisition is expected to contribute to the company’s free cash flow results by the fourth quarter of 2025.

This acquisition continues N-able’s pattern of providing continued value to customers. This is emphasized further in N-able’s recently launched Global Compliance Program.
