Rocket Software, a vendor of various IT modernization capabilities, recently announced the availability of its new DataEdge suite of solutions tailored to address the growing complexities around data management as AI and analytics projects fuel demand.

Channel Insider spoke with Michael Curry, Rocket Software’s president of data modernization, to learn more about the new DataEdge solution and the company’s general approach to the ever-changing infrastructure market.

DataEdge automates data discovery, organizing, and classifying

Rocket Software’s portfolio of solutions addresses everything from remote access to workflow automation and quality management. Now, the launch of DataEdge adds a new structured data suite designed to bridge the gap between core transactional systems, distributed environments, and cloud infrastructures.

“Generally, we are a company focused on developing the software that enables and helps companies modernize their business,” Curry said.

According to the press release provided by the company, Rocket DataEdge enables enterprises to:

  • Synchronize enterprise data in real-time: Easily connect hard-to-reach mainframe, IBM i, and on-premises data with cloud applications, data lakes, lakehouses, and warehouses.
  • Access and analyze data faster: By automating the scanning and analysis of mainframe and cloud metadata, data becomes easily understood and mapped to cloud data initiatives.
  • Reduce operational costs and increase business agility: By enabling optimal hybrid cloud processing engines for data management, enterprises can lower costs, optimize operations, and speed delivery.
  • Improve workflows across infrastructure: Cohesive data management minimizes complexity, delays, errors, and compatibility challenges by seamlessly unifying data across environments.

“Everyone’s come to the realization that hybrid cloud is the reality moving forward,” Curry continued. “There are use cases for cloud, for sure, and by now, if a company wants to explore that, they have already migrated. The workflows that are left, a lot of those will stay in a mainframe or on-prem environment.”

Curry also notes that he and his team want to build tools that companies can utilize alongside the technology they already have in their processes. As Curry says, mature organizations may have software and hardware they have relied on for decades. Ripping and replacing can be hugely disruptive to work, and Rocket Software’s integrations aim to keep that overhaul from happening.

How tech trends are complicating the use of data in an organization

Of course, the onset of cloud technology is not the most recent industry disruptor, and artificial intelligence now holds most businesses’ attention. But even while AI tools, including GenAI tools and the emergence of agentic AI solutions, continue to dominate ways of working, it still isn’t the only thing organizations need data to utilize.

“Most of the use cases we see honestly haven’t even gotten to AI yet,” said Curry.

Still, Curry and his team know that the push for AI-enabled processes and workflows connects nicely with the broader pain points it addresses, especially regarding data clarity and management.

“It really all comes down to the importance of having the best data available for your investments in projects around AI and analytics,” Curry said.

The power of partnership: how one provider leverages Rocket Software

CCA Software is an Australian-based services provider with a long history of utilizing its deep knowledge in mainframe and other technologies to support clients. Above all, Client Executive Margaret Dine says the firm puts the emphasis on the needs of a business, not on individual products.

“It’s not about the solutions, it’s all about the outcomes,” Dine said. “We’re absolutely laser-focused on our customers, not on certain products.”

To that end, Dine says Rocket Software has proven to be a valuable partner in driving value for customers. CCA Software came to know Rocket Software when the latter acquired a vendor the provider had utiized for years. While Dine admits there were some bumpy moments early in the transition, the Rocket Software team has proven they are committed to helping CCA Software and its customers succeed.

That commitment, which included Curry visiting CCA Software and other partners in Australia to meet and discuss goals, translates to everything from deal negotiations to identifying product use cases best aligned with the outcomes-based approach the provider takes to its clients.

“For me, a partnership that is a win-win is one where there’s a true shared value prop,” Dine said. “Our relationship with Rocket, it’s just absolute respect, and them asking how they can help us, and how we can go to market together.”
